An outsourced marketing team that lives on social media
An outsourced marketing team means that a company's marketing is handled by an external team instead of its own staff, a team that takes responsibility for the whole rather than just individual assignments. At Formi this means a social-media-led model: we produce 10–16 short videos a month, run the social media channels in full, optimise paid advertising and report monthly on what generates sales. The price is built around the amount of content, the channels and the media budget.
What an outsourced marketing team does
Overall responsibility is what separates an outsourced team from buying individual services. When the videos come from one place, publishing from another and advertising from a third, nobody owns the end result. An outsourced team owns it.
With us, the package covers four things:
- Content production. Ideation, scripting, shoot days, editing. 10–16 ready-to-publish short videos a month, plus photos for social media and advertising.
- Channel management. A publishing calendar, multi-channel publishing on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube Shorts, and continuous care of the channels.
- Paid advertising. Scaling organically tested content with a media budget on Meta and TikTok.
- Reporting and development. A monthly report that looks at what delivered and what to scale next.
The client's role is to set the framework and approve the content. It's deliberately light: the whole point of the model is that nobody on your own team has to run production.
An outsourced team or an in-house marketer
The question is usually settled by doing the maths. The real cost of one marketing person is salary with employer costs, equipment, software and the time spent on recruiting. And one person can rarely shoot, edit, buy advertising and analyse data all at the same level.
| In-house marketer | Outsourced team | |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly cost | salary + employer costs + tools | a fixed monthly price, agreed based on the amount of content |
| Skills | one person, one profile | videographer, editor, ad buyer, analyst |
| Getting started | recruiting, weeks or months | production up and running in weeks |
| Holidays and absences | work stops | work continues |
| Scaling | a new hire | increase the amount of content by agreement |
An in-house marketer wins when content is needed daily and reactions have to be immediate. Many of our clients end up with a combination: production, publishing and advertising with us, and one person in-house who owns marketing and approves the direction. The comparison is covered in more detail in the article social media agency or in-house creator.
Why our model is social-media-led
Most outsourced marketing teams are built around strategy consulting, with content bought in as needed. With us the order is different: content is the engine and everything else is built around it.
The reason is practical. A consumer brand's customers are on social media, and what matters there is publishing rhythm and how well the content hits, not the thickness of a strategy document. That's why our team makes dozens of videos every month, tracks what works and scales it with advertising. Our clients' content gathers around 7 million views a month, and our impact on our clients' revenue is over €5 million. Our clients include OnePlus, Sneak.fi, Forza, Props and Weekend Festival.
What an outsourced marketing team costs
| Videos / month | Shoot days | Effect on the price per video |
|---|---|---|
| 2 videos | A separate shoot as needed | The most expensive way to buy, because ideation, shoot arrangements and post-production are split across only two videos |
| 10 videos | One shoot day a month | One day is enough for the whole month's content, and the price per video ends up clearly below a one-off purchase |
| 16 videos | Two shoot days a month | The lowest price per video, when scripting, shooting and editing run as a continuous routine |
| Ongoing partnership | Agreed according to the annual calendar | The price is built around the amount of content, the channels and the media budget |
In the Finnish market the price range is wide: a single short video from a freelancer typically costs €200–500, and an in-house creator costs around €3,500–5,000 a month including employer costs. With an outsourced team, the price is built around the amount of content, the channels and the media budget, and the decisive variable is volume: the more videos come out of the same shoot day, the lower the price per video. The media budget, meaning the ad money paid to the platforms, is always a separate cost that runs through the client's own ad account, and a realistic minimum is around €1,000 a month. Who this is for and who it isn't
The model suits a consumer brand with a product that works, revenue of at least around €1 million and a desire to grow sales through social media without its own production machinery.
The model isn't a fit if your marketing primarily needs trade fairs, print or long B2B sales cycles, or if you want to keep content production in-house and buy only advice. There are better partners for those needs, and we'll say so straight out in the meeting too.
